» Bucks For Beds (May 2010 - May 2012)
The Blind River District Health Centre (BRDHC) Foundation has undertaken a fundraising project identified as Bucks for Beds to replace 14 patient units consisting of a beds, mattresses, bedside tables and over bed tables in our Acute Care Department.
In 2009, the 14 beds in our Acute Care Department accommodated 499 patients staying for an average of 9.6 days. This resulted in a total yearly occupancy of 4,970.4 patient days or the equivalency of 119,289.6 hours of patient use. The current equipment will be approaching 20 years of reliable service in 2012, the equivalency of over 2,380,000 hours of patient use.
The move to new equipment will emphasize the Health Centre’s commitment to increased patient safety and fall prevention and will benefit an estimated population of 8,000 people. The new beds will offer features such as safer entry and exit and alerts to help prevent patient falls. The addition of new mattresses allow for improved pressure redistribution points, increased comfort and shear prevention, and may also help reduce the risk of pressure ulcers.
The BRDHC Foundation Fundraising Committee hopes to raise $100,000 by May 2012 to procure this equipment upgrade. Each unit is expected to cost approximately $7,000.
All donations of $1,000 or more will be recognized with a “leaf” on our donor “Tree of Life.” Donations of $7,000 or more will be recognized with an honorary plaque to be placed in a patient room.
